Three of the 120 questions in this pack

Question 1

Which action should the project manager take to ensure effective progress management when a team manager is inexperienced?

  1. Increase the frequency of checkpoint reports
  2. Allow the team manager more flexibility to exceed cost tolerance
  3. Increase the frequency of event-driven controls
  4. Increase the frequency of escalations by the team manager
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: A. Increase the frequency of checkpoint reports

When a team manager is inexperienced, the project manager should increase the frequency of checkpoint reports to maintain closer visibility and oversight of progress. More frequent reporting allows early detection of issues and enables timely intervention. This is a core principle of effective delegated management; maintaining appropriate control through increased monitoring when competence is uncertain.

Why the other options are wrong

  • B. Allowing cost tolerance flexibility would reduce rather than increase control, which is inappropriate for an inexperienced manager.
  • C. While event-driven controls are useful, checkpoint reports provide systematic progress visibility that is essential when managing inexperienced staff.
  • D. Increasing escalations would be reactive rather than proactive and would not prevent problems from occurring.

Question 2

Which action contributes to achieving the ‘ensure continued business justification’ principle?

  1. Adapting PRINCE2 Project Management to the scale and complexity of the project
  2. Assigning roles and responsibilities for the project team
  3. Establishing limits of authority on the project based on defined tolerances
  4. Ensuring that the project remains worthwhile throughout the lifecycle of the project
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: D. Ensuring that the project remains worthwhile throughout the lifecycle of the project

throughout the lifecycle of the project The 'ensure continued business justification' principle requires that the project remains worthwhile throughout its lifecycle. This means continuously verifying that the project delivers value and should continue. Ensuring the project remains worthwhile throughout its lifecycle directly embodies this principle by maintaining ongoing validation of the business case.

Why the other options are wrong

  • A. Adapting PRINCE2 to project scale relates to tailoring the methodology, not to maintaining business justification.
  • B. Assigning roles and responsibilities is about project organization, not about validating ongoing business value.
  • C. Establishing authority limits based on tolerances relates to control and governance, not to evaluating business justification.

Question 3

Which term is defined as the means by which an organization transitions from its current state to the target state?

  1. Progress management
  2. Change control
  3. Change management
  4. Risk management
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: C. Change management

Change management is defined as the means by which an organization transitions from its current state to a target state. This is the standard definition in both PRINCE2 and broader project management practice. It encompasses the processes, tools, and techniques used to facilitate organizational transformation.

Why the other options are wrong

  • A. Progress management refers to monitoring and controlling project execution against plans.
  • B. Change control is the process of assessing and approving specific changes, not the overall transition mechanism.
  • D. Risk management deals with identifying and mitigating uncertainties, not organizational transition.

What makes the PRINCE2 7 Foundation hard

PRINCE2 7 restructured the method, and much of the study material still in circulation is for the edition before it. The old seven themes are now seven practices, organization became organizing, change became issues, and a whole people element was added that sixth edition guides simply do not have. Notes that still say themes describe an exam that no longer exists.

The exam is closed book, 60 questions in 60 minutes, and it tests the method’s exact vocabulary: which of the seven principles a scenario illustrates, what each practice owns, which process a given activity belongs to, and the management products that flow between them. The wrong answers are always neighbouring PRINCE2 terms, so near-enough knowledge scores near zero, and one minute per question leaves no time to reason it out from first principles.

About the exam

PRINCE2 7 Foundation, listed by PeopleCert as PRINCE2 Project Management Foundation (Version 7), certifies understanding of the PRINCE2 method: its principles, practices, processes, and the people element introduced in the seventh edition. It is the standard project management entry credential across the UK, Europe and Asia-Pacific.

Exam domains

  • The seven principles
  • The seven practices: business case, organizing, plans, quality, risk, issues, progress
  • The seven processes across the project lifecycle
  • People: leadership, culture and change
  • Key project roles and their responsibilities
  • Tailoring PRINCE2 to the project context

60 multiple-choice questions, 60 minutes, closed book, passing score 60% (36/60). PeopleCert lists the exam bundle at US$701, including the official eBook, with eLearning packages at US$1,029 and US$1,338. Regional and bundle pricing vary. Valid three years via PeopleCert renewal.
