Three of the 125 questions in this pack

Question 1

What is the fastest way for security incident administrators to remove unwanted widgets from the Security Incident Catalog?

  1. Clicking the X on the top right corner
  2. Talking to the system administrator
  3. Can't be removed
  4. Through the Catalog Definition record
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: D. Through the Catalog Definition record

Widgets in the Security Incident Catalog are managed through the Catalog Definition record, which provides the administrative interface for configuring and removing catalog items. This is the proper administrative method rather than attempting UI shortcuts or contacting system administrators.

Why the other options are wrong

  • A. Clicking an X button is not a supported method for removing widgets from the catalog.
  • B. While system administrators could theoretically help, this is not the fastest or proper self-service method for incident administrators.
  • C. Widgets can be removed; they are not permanently locked in the catalog.

Question 2

Select the one capability that retrieves a list of running processes on a CI from a host or endpoint.

  1. Get Network Statistics
  2. Isolate Host
  3. Get Running Processes
  4. Publish Watchlist
  5. Block Action
  6. Sightings Search
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: C. Get Running Processes

Get Running Processes is the specific capability designed to retrieve and display a list of currently running processes on a Configuration Item from a host or endpoint. This is a direct host response action used in security investigations.

Why the other options are wrong

  • A. Get Network Statistics retrieves network information rather than process lists.
  • B. Isolate Host disconnects a device from the network rather than querying processes.
  • D. Publish Watchlist distributes threat intelligence rather than querying endpoints.
  • E. Block Action prevents malicious activities rather than retrieving process information.
  • F. Sightings Search looks up threat intelligence sightings rather than querying running processes.

Question 3

Which Table would be commonly used for Security Incident Response?

  1. sysapproval_approver
  2. sec_ops_incident
  3. cmdb_rel_ci
  4. sn_si_incident
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: D. sn_si_incident

The sn_si_incident table is the primary table for storing and managing security incidents in ServiceNow's Security Incident Response module. This is the core data structure for all incident-related operations.

Why the other options are wrong

  • A. sysapproval_approver is used for approval workflows, not incident management.
  • B. sec_ops_incident is not the standard ServiceNow security incident table.
  • C. cmdb_rel_ci tracks configuration item relationships, not security incidents.

What makes the CIS-SIR hard

CIS-SIR is the Security Operations exam for the incident side of the house, and its blueprint is unusual for ServiceNow in that a single domain, Automation and Standard Processes, carries almost a third of the marks. That reflects where the product has gone: SIR is now mostly playbooks, runbooks and automated enrichment, and the exam tests whether you can build that rather than just work a security incident by hand. It is 60 questions in 90 minutes.

Automation and Standard Processes is 30%: the Automate Security Incident Response framework, process automation with playbooks and runbooks, flow based response and User Reported Phishing. Overview and Data Visualization at 15% covers the SIR architecture and components and its dashboards. Security Incident Response Management at 15% covers the SIR Workspace, automated assignment options, escalation paths, security tags and process definitions.

Creation and Threat Intelligence at 14% covers how security incidents are created from email, alerts and integrations, major security incident management, threat intelligence concepts and the MITRE ATT&CK framework as it appears in the platform. Integrations at 14% covers the ServiceNow Store and Share, managing pre-built integrations with SIEM, EDR and threat feeds, building custom integrations and the Threat Intelligence Service Center. Risk Calculations and Post Incident Response at 12% covers calculator groups and risk scores, post incident reviews and the link to Event Management. Know the difference between a playbook and a runbook and where each executes; it comes up more than once.

About the exam

CIS-SIR (Certified Implementation Specialist, Security Incident Response) certifies the ability to implement ServiceNow Security Incident Response: overview and data visualisation, incident creation and threat intelligence, integrations, response management, risk calculations and post incident review, and automation with playbooks and runbooks. Prerequisite: the CIS Data Foundations (CMDB and CSDM) certification. ServiceNow recommends the Security Operations Fundamentals and Security Incident Response Implementation courses.
