What makes the CIS-HAM hard
CIS-HAM is the hardware half of ServiceNow’s IT asset management pair, and since ServiceNow made CIS-DF a prerequisite it assumes you already understand the CMDB and CSDM. The exam is about the asset side of that boundary: what is an asset versus a configuration item, how hardware gets discovered, normalised and tracked from procurement to disposal, and how the financials attach. It runs 60 questions in 90 minutes, currently cut against the Zurich release.
Practical Asset Management is the largest domain at 30%: consumables, inventory and stockrooms, asset automation and asset flows, HAM tasks, contract management, and retirement and disposal. Data Integrity and Sources follows at 27%: trustworthy data, the asset versus configuration item relationship and how they synchronise, hardware discovery, normalisation and Hardware Model Normalization through the content service.
ITAM Overview and Fundamentals (20%) covers the basics, the hardware asset lifecycle, implementation best practices and the relevant personas and roles. Operational Integration (18%) covers reports and dashboards, the Hardware Asset Workspace, requests and procurement, and data certification and asset hygiene. Financial Management is only 5%: contract financials, rate cards, expense lines, depreciation, fixed assets and total cost of ownership. Expect questions that describe a state, a scheduled job or a normalisation result and ask what happens to the asset record.

CIS-HAM (Certified Implementation Specialist: Hardware Asset Management) certifies the ability to implement ServiceNow Hardware Asset Management: ITAM fundamentals and the hardware lifecycle, data integrity and sources, practical asset management, operational integration and financial management. It requires the CIS-Data Foundations (CMDB and CSDM) certification as a prerequisite. ServiceNow recommends the Hardware Asset Management Fundamentals and Implementation courses.
