What makes the SC-900 hard
The SC-900 is not hard so much as tricky. Defender for Endpoint versus Defender for Cloud versus Defender for Office 365. Compliance Manager versus the Purview portal. Microsoft Sentinel versus Microsoft Defender XDR. The exam does not test configuration skills: it tests whether you can distinguish between these products and know when each one applies. That is where most candidates lose marks.
The weighting rewards product knowledge over theory: Microsoft security solutions make up 35 to 40% of the exam and Entra another 25 to 30%, while the pure concepts domain is only 10 to 15%.
It runs to 40 to 60 questions in 45 minutes, with 700 out of 1000 needed to pass. At US$99 it is one of the cheaper Microsoft exams, but failing and retaking costs US$198 plus another round of booking and waiting. The SC-900 does not expire once earned, so passing on the first attempt is the cleanest outcome. This pack covers Entra, Defender, Sentinel and Purview, so the product differentiation questions Microsoft favours are familiar before exam day.
