Three of the 192 questions in this pack
Question 1
Which of the following is the most important consideration when opening a file on an OS GUI?
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: A. File extension
The file extension is the most critical consideration when opening a file on a GUI because it determines which application the OS will use to open the file and how the file will be interpreted. The extension tells the system what type of file it is (e.g., .txt for text, .pdf for documents, .exe for executables), which is essential for proper file handling and security.
Why the other options are wrong
- B. Default permissions affect access control but not how or whether a file opens initially.
- C. Backup policy is a maintenance consideration, not relevant to the immediate act of opening a file.
- D. Data compression affects storage efficiency but not the primary consideration when opening a file.
Question 2
Which of the following devices extends the range of a network?
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: D. Access point
An access point is specifically designed to extend wireless network range by receiving signals from a wireless router and amplifying/retransmitting them to cover a larger area. This is its primary function in extending network coverage.
Why the other options are wrong
- A. A modem connects to an ISP and converts signals but does not extend network range.
- B. A server provides services and storage but is not designed to extend network coverage range.
- C. A host firewall is a software security tool on individual devices and does not extend network range.
Question 3
A user receives a notification about a new software vulnerability. Which of the following is the best way to secure the software?
Show answer and explanation
Correct answer: B. Applying updates
Applying updates (patches) is the best and most direct way to secure software against a known vulnerability. Software updates contain fixes specifically designed to address identified security vulnerabilities, closing the exploitable gap.
Why the other options are wrong
- A. Configuring a firewall may help block some attacks but does not fix the underlying vulnerability in the software.
- C. Enabling authentication protects access but does not remediate the vulnerability itself.
- D. Uninstalling the program removes functionality and is impractical when updates are available to fix the issue.

Failing the Tech+ costs another US$129 plus weeks of restudying. This pack is US$39, paid once, and refunded if you fail anyway.
What makes the Tech+ hard
Tech+ is the entry point to the whole CompTIA path. Pass it and A+, Network+ and Security+ become noticeably easier to approach. Fail it and it is another US$129 plus a delay to a career you have already decided on.
It catches more people off guard than it should. It is not just a terminology quiz: it covers six domains, tech concepts, infrastructure, applications, software development, database fundamentals and security, and expects you to apply those concepts in scenarios rather than recite definitions. Infrastructure and security together make up 43% of the exam, and candidates who study only at surface level tend to underestimate both.
This pack puts all 192 questions in one place, so the question style is familiar before exam day.
About the exam
CompTIA Tech+ is CompTIA's pre-career foundational certification, replacing the older ITF+. It validates broad IT knowledge across hardware, software, networking, security, databases and software development, the concepts every IT professional needs before specialising. It is the recommended starting point for the CompTIA path leading to A+, Network+ and Security+. The current version is V6, series code FC0-U71, launched 16 July 2024. No prior experience or prerequisites are required. FC0-U71 itself does not expire; the FC0-U71-CE variant is valid for five years and renewable through continuing education.
