What makes the GH-900 hard
GH-900 is the entry point to the GitHub certification track, and it was rewritten in January 2026: the skills outline was reorganised into seven domains, every objective was reworded, and Copilot agents, Agent Mode, Enterprise Managed Users and passkeys arrived on the blueprint. A bank written for the 2024 outline still covers the Git and repository basics but misses the material that moved the exam forward.
Understanding Git and GitHub basics is the largest domain at 25 to 30%: version control, the difference between Git and GitHub, repositories, commits and branches, accounts, organisations and enterprise options, the GitHub Flow, Markdown in issues and pull requests, and where GitHub Desktop and Mobile fit. The next four domains, working with repositories, collaborating, applying modern development practices, and privacy, security and administration, each carry 10 to 15% and between them cover everything from README, LICENSE and CODEOWNERS files to Actions, Copilot, Codespaces, two-factor authentication and branch protection.
It is a fundamentals exam, so the questions test whether you know which feature does what, not how to script it.
