Three of the 408 questions in this pack

Question 1

A Service Catalog may include which of the following components?

  1. Order Guides, Exchange Rates, Calendars
  2. Order Guides, Catalog Items, and Interceptors
  3. Catalog Items, Asset Contracts, Task Surveys
  4. Record Producers, Order Guides, and Catalog Items
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: D. Record Producers, Order Guides, and Catalog Items

A Service Catalog is built from Catalog Items, Order Guides, and Record Producers. Catalog Items represent the individual services or products users can request, Order Guides bundle several related items into a single guided ordering flow, and Record Producers let users create records such as incidents or requests directly from a catalog- style form. Together these three components make up the standard content of a Service Catalog.

Why the other options are wrong

  • A. Exchange Rates and Calendars are platform configuration records used by currency handling and scheduling, not Service Catalog content.
  • B. Interceptors are a navigation feature that intercepts a page request and presents the user with a choice of destinations, so they are not Service Catalog components.
  • C. Asset Contracts belong to Asset Management and Task Surveys belong to the survey engine, neither of which is part of the catalog structure.

Question 2

Which one of the following statements applies to a set of fields when they are coalesced during an import?

  1. If a match is found using the coalesce fields, the existing record is updated with the information being imported
  2. If a match is not found using the coalesce fields, the system does not create a Transform Map
  3. If a match is found using the coalesce fields, the system creates a new record
  4. If a match is not found using the coalesce fields, the existing record is updated with the information being imported
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: A. If a match is found using the coalesce fields, the existing record is updated with the information being imported

existing record is updated with the information being imported Coalesce fields are used during imports to identify matching records in the system. When a match is found using the coalesce fields, the existing record is updated with the newly imported information rather than creating a duplicate. This matching and updating mechanism is the primary purpose of configuring coalesce fields in a Transform Map.

Why the other options are wrong

  • B. The system creates a Transform Map regardless of whether matches are found using coalesce fields; the Transform Map is a prerequisite configuration.
  • C. When a match is found using coalesce fields, the existing record is updated, not a new record created.
  • D. If a match is not found using coalesce fields, a new record is created, not an existing record updated.

Question 3

As it relates to ServiceNow reporting, which of the following statements describes what a metric can do?

  1. A metric is a report gauge used on homepages to display real-time data
  2. A metric is a time measurement used to report the effectiveness of workflows and SLAs
  3. A metric is used to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of IT service management processes
  4. A metric is a comparative measurement used to report the effectiveness of flows and SLAs.
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: C. A metric is used to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of IT service management processes

effectiveness of IT service management processes A metric in ServiceNow is used to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of IT service management processes. Metrics provide quantifiable measurements that help organizations assess how well their service management activities are performing against established goals and standards.

Why the other options are wrong

  • A. While metrics may display on dashboards, they are not defined as report gauges; they are measurements of effectiveness.
  • B. Metrics measure effectiveness across all ITSM processes, not just workflows and SLAs specifically.
  • D. Metrics are not primarily comparative measurements; they are absolute measurements used to evaluate process effectiveness.

What makes the CSA hard

The CSA is the entry point to the entire ServiceNow ecosystem: nearly every ServiceNow role, from administrator to developer to consultant, starts here. If your work touches the Now Platform, this is the credential employers expect first.

What decides it is configuring and administering a ServiceNow instance end to end: users, groups and roles, access control lists, forms and views, the service catalog, workflows and flow designer, import sets and data management, plus reporting and core ITSM modules like Incident, Problem and Change. The exam tests breadth across the whole platform rather than depth in any single area.

About the exam

The ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) validates the ability to configure, administer and manage a ServiceNow instance at the platform level. It is the foundational credential every other ServiceNow certification builds on.

Exam domains

  • User administration and security
  • Database administration and data management
  • Self-service and process automation
  • Reporting and analytics
  • Core platform configuration and the service catalog

60 multiple-choice and multiple-select questions, 90 minutes, passing score not published by ServiceNow, Pearson VUE test centre or OnVUE online proctored. Maintained through annual delta exams and the yearly Certification Maintenance Program fee. ServiceNow prices the exam voucher at US$300 for candidates outside a ServiceNow partner organisation.
