What makes the CIS-SPM hard
CIS-SPM is the exam for what ServiceNow used to call ITBM and PPM, and the blueprint is lopsided by design: project management and resource management make up more than half the marks, and four of the nine domains are worth two to five percent each, which at 60 questions means one or two questions apiece. It is 60 questions in 90 minutes, currently cut against the Zurich release, and it assumes you have run a demand through to a closed project on the platform.
Project Management is 30%: project creation and templates, the work breakdown structure, task management, dependencies and milestones, top down versus bottom up tasking, the project workbench and risk and issue management. Resource Management at 23% covers resource pools, allocation methods, capacity planning, utilisation tracking, resource requests and confirming or declining them, and conflict management.
Idea and Demand at 18% covers idea management, the demand intake process, assessment criteria, scoring and prioritisation, approval workflows and promoting a qualified demand to a project, enhancement, change or defect. SPM Financials at 10% covers budgets, cost and benefit tracking, ROI, financial plans and cost breakdown structures. Portfolio Planning Workspace at 8% covers the bubble chart, scenario planning, optimisation and what if analysis. Timecard Management at 5% covers timecard configuration, submission and approval and project actuals. The three 2% domains are the implementation overview, Platform Analytics and dashboards, and how SPM integrates with ITSM, Change, CMDB, GRC and Agile. Spend your time where the marks are, and learn the small domains from the course slides.
