Three of the 250 questions in this pack

Question 1

A CMDB Administrator has built a number of Technology Management Service Offerings (Technical Service Offerings) based on Dynamic CI Groups to better maintain group alignment for the member CI.

Which Groups are synced to CIs from the offering that has a relationship to a Dynamic CI Group? (Choose two.)

  1. Approval Group
  2. Managed by Group
  3. Support Group
  4. Owned by Group
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: B, C

B. Managed by Group C. Support Group When a Technology Management Service Offering is based on a Dynamic CI Group, the system synchronizes the Managed by Group and Support Group from the Dynamic CI Group to member CIs. These groups represent operational responsibility and support assignment, which are critical for maintaining group alignment across related configuration items.

Why the other options are wrong

  • A. Approval Group is not synced from Dynamic CI Groups to member CIs.
  • D. Owned by Group is not synced from Dynamic CI Groups to member CIs.

Question 2

A new custom class is needed to reflect a new application being managed in the CMDB.

Which roles are minimally needed to add this custom CI class?

  1. A cmdb_inst_admin and personalize_form
  2. itil_admin and personalize_form
  3. data_classification_admin and personalize_dictionary
  4. sn_cmdb_admin and personalize_dictionary
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: D. sn_cmdb_admin and personalize_dictionary

Creating a new custom CI class requires the sn_cmdb_admin role to access CMDB administration functions and the personalize_dictionary role to modify the system dictionary and schema where CI classes are defined. These two roles together provide the minimal permissions needed to add a custom class to the CMDB.

Why the other options are wrong

  • A. The cmdb_inst_admin role does not exist; the correct role is sn_cmdb_admin. Personalize_form alone is insufficient without dictionary modification rights.
  • B. While itil_admin provides ITSM capabilities, it does not grant the necessary CMDB administration privileges required for class creation.
  • C. Data_classification_admin is for data classification governance, not CMDB class definition. Personalize_dictionary alone lacks the CMDB-specific administrative permissions.

Question 3

What is the relationship between an application and a server?

  1. Application>Used by::Uses>Server
  2. Application> Uses::Used by>Server
  3. Application>Runs::Runs On>Server
  4. Application>Runs on::Runs>Server
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: D. Application>Runs on::Runs>Server

The relationship between Application and Server uses the 'Runs on' relationship type from the Application side and 'Runs' from the Server side. This directional relationship reflects that an Application runs on a Server, with the forward relationship named 'Runs on' and the reverse relationship named 'Runs'.

Why the other options are wrong

  • A. This reverses the relationship direction; 'Used by' and 'Uses' describe dependency, not execution location.
  • B. This has the relationship names backwards relative to the correct direction and semantic meaning.
  • C. While 'Runs on' is part of the correct answer, this option incorrectly names both directions as 'Runs'.

What makes the CIS-DF hard

CIS-DF is the exam ServiceNow inserted underneath most of its implementation track: Data Foundations is now a prerequisite for CIS-ITSM, CIS-HAM, CIS-SAM, CIS-Discovery, CIS-SM, CIS-SIR and CIS-VR, so anyone heading for those exams sits this one first. It replaced the old CMDB certification, is currently cut against the Zurich release, and is harder than its position in the ladder suggests: 75 questions in 90 minutes, most of them scenarios and drag and drop items, with only a handful of straight definition questions.

Govern is the largest domain by far at 35%, more than twice any other: CMDB health with completeness, correctness and compliance KPIs, staleness, orphans and duplicates, the governance processes and roles that keep the data trusted, lifecycle controls for retiring, archiving and deleting configuration items with the CMDB Data Manager, and data certification and remediation. Insight follows at 20%: Query Builder, dashboards, CMDB 360 and the Unified Map for reporting and impact analysis.

Ingest at 19% covers importing, normalising and reconciling configuration item data through the Identification and Reconciliation Engine, identification and reconciliation rules, data source precedence, Service Graph Connectors and import set tools. Configuration (15%) and CSDM Fundamentals (11%) round it out, the latter covering the Common Service Data Model’s domains and its Crawl, Walk, Run and Fly stages. The questions expect you to know which domain an object belongs in and what happens when two sources disagree about a configuration item.

About the exam

CIS-DF (Certified Implementation Specialist: Data Foundations) certifies CMDB and Common Service Data Model expertise on the ServiceNow platform, and is the prerequisite for most CIS implementation certifications. It covers CMDB configuration, ingest with the Identification and Reconciliation Engine, governance and health, insight and reporting, and CSDM fundamentals. ServiceNow recommends the CMDB and CSDM Fundamentals training.
