Three of the 142 questions in this pack

Question 1

Which of the following keywords are used to link a pull request to an issue? (Choose three.)

  1. fix
  2. resolves
  3. merge
  4. join
  5. closed
  6. connects
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: A, B, E

A. fix B. resolves E. closed GitHub supports a fixed set of keywords that link a pull request to an issue and close that issue when the pull request merges into the default branch. Those keywords are close, closes, closed, fix, fixes, fixed, and resolve, resolves, resolved. From the list given, fix, resolves, and closed are all valid forms, so they are the three correct choices.

Why the other options are wrong

  • C. Merge describes combining branches and is not a recognized linking keyword.
  • D. Join is not a GitHub linking keyword.
  • F. Connects is not a GitHub linking keyword, so it creates no automatic issue link.

Question 2

Which syntax is used for authoring saved replies?

  1. HTML
  2. YAML
  3. Markup
  4. Markdown
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: D. Markdown

GitHub saved replies are authored using Markdown syntax. This allows users to format text with headers, lists, code blocks, links, and other formatting elements when creating reusable response templates for issues and pull requests.

Why the other options are wrong

  • A. HTML is not used for authoring saved replies on GitHub.
  • B. YAML is a configuration language, not the syntax for composing saved replies.
  • C. Markup is a general term, but GitHub specifically uses Markdown for saved replies.

Question 3

As a user, what feature can you use to merge proposed changes in a repository on GitHub?

  1. discussions
  2. projects
  3. pull requests
  4. issues
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: C. pull requests

Pull requests are the GitHub feature designed to propose, review, and merge changes into a repository. They allow users to suggest modifications, discuss them with collaborators, and ultimately merge the proposed changes into the target branch through a formal review process.

Why the other options are wrong

  • A. Discussions are for collaborative conversations, not for merging code changes.
  • B. Projects are for organizing and tracking work items, not for merging changes.
  • D. Issues are for tracking bugs and features, not for merging code directly.

What makes the GH-900 hard

GH-900 is the entry point to the GitHub certification track, and it was rewritten in January 2026: the skills outline was reorganised into seven domains, every objective was reworded, and Copilot agents, Agent Mode, Enterprise Managed Users and passkeys arrived on the blueprint. A bank written for the 2024 outline still covers the Git and repository basics but misses the material that moved the exam forward.

Understanding Git and GitHub basics is the largest domain at 25 to 30%: version control, the difference between Git and GitHub, repositories, commits and branches, accounts, organisations and enterprise options, the GitHub Flow, Markdown in issues and pull requests, and where GitHub Desktop and Mobile fit. The next four domains, working with repositories, collaborating, applying modern development practices, and privacy, security and administration, each carry 10 to 15% and between them cover everything from README, LICENSE and CODEOWNERS files to Actions, Copilot, Codespaces, two-factor authentication and branch protection.

It is a fundamentals exam, so the questions test whether you know which feature does what, not how to script it.
