What makes the 305-300 hard
This is the LPI exam where multiple choice is not the problem. The fill-in-the-blank questions are. 305-300 mixes multiple choice with fill in the blank, and on the blanks there is nothing to recognise and nothing to eliminate: the command, subcommand or option has to be typed and is either exactly right or worth zero. That means virsh subcommands, qemu-img flags, docker and lxc syntax, and cloud-init and Vagrant directive names all have to be in the fingers, not just familiar on sight.
The weighting is unusually top heavy: full virtualization is 25 points and container virtualization another 25, so those two topics make up 83% of the exam between them, while deployment and provisioning is only 10. Inside them, libvirt virtual machine management and Docker are the single heaviest objectives at 9 points each, then container concepts at 7 and virtualization theory at 6. Xen, QEMU, disk image management and orchestration platforms are worth 3 or 4 each, which is exactly why candidates over-study Xen and then run out of time on libvirt.
The exam is 60 questions in 90 minutes, and an active LPIC-2 is required to be awarded the LPIC-3 certification, though nothing stops candidates from sitting the 305 exam first. This pack has 55 practice questions mapped to the version 3.0 objectives.
