What makes the Tech+ hard
Tech+ is the entry point to the whole CompTIA path. Pass it and A+, Network+ and Security+ become noticeably easier to approach. Fail it and it is another US$129 plus a delay to a career you have already decided on.
It catches more people off guard than it should. It is not just a terminology quiz: it covers six domains, tech concepts, infrastructure, applications, software development, database fundamentals and security, and expects you to apply those concepts in scenarios rather than recite definitions. Infrastructure and security together make up 43% of the exam, and candidates who study only at surface level tend to underestimate both.
This pack puts all 192 questions in one place, so the question style is familiar before exam day.
About the exam
CompTIA Tech+ is CompTIA’s pre-career foundational certification, replacing the older ITF+. It validates broad IT knowledge across hardware, software, networking, security, databases and software development, the concepts every IT professional needs before specialising. It is the recommended starting point for the CompTIA path leading to A+, Network+ and Security+. The current version is V6, series code FC0-U71, launched 16 July 2024. No prior experience or prerequisites are required. FC0-U71 itself does not expire; the FC0-U71-CE variant is valid for five years and renewable through continuing education.
