Three of the 197 questions in this pack

Question 1

What are the key components that make up the Check Point Three-Tier Architecture?

  1. Gaia WebUI Portal, Security Management and Security Gateway installed together on same server
  2. Security Dashboard, Management Database Server, Firewall
  3. Web Security Console, Log Server, Firewall
  4. SmartConsole, Security Management Server, Security Gateway
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: D. SmartConsole, Security Management Server, Security Gateway

Gateway The Check Point Three-Tier Architecture consists of three core components: SmartConsole (the management client), the Security Management Server (which stores policies and manages the enforcement points), and the Security Gateway (which enforces the security policies on network traffic). These three tiers work together to provide centralized security management and distributed enforcement.

Why the other options are wrong

  • A. This describes an incorrect deployment where components are co-located on the same server, not the proper three-tier separation.
  • B. Security Dashboard, Management Database Server, and Firewall do not represent the standard Check Point three-tier architecture terminology.
  • C. Web Security Console, Log Server, and Firewall are not the core components of the three-tier architecture.

Question 2

What provides the trusted client option in SmartConsole?

  1. IP address(es) allowed to connect to the Gaia Portal
  2. IP address(es) allowed to connect to the Security Management Server using SmartConsole
  3. IP address(es) allowed to connect to the Security Management Server using ssh
  4. IP address(es) allowed to connect to the Security Gateway(s)
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: B. IP address(es) allowed to connect to the Security Management Server using SmartConsole

Management Server using SmartConsole The trusted client option in SmartConsole defines which IP addresses are allowed to establish connections to the Security Management Server using the SmartConsole application. This is a security measure to restrict administrative access to the management server only from authorized management workstations.

Why the other options are wrong

  • A. Gaia Portal access is controlled through different mechanisms, not the SmartConsole trusted client feature.
  • C. SSH access to the Security Management Server is controlled through different authentication and network policies, not SmartConsole trusted clients.
  • D. Connections to Security Gateways are managed through gateway objects and policies, not through SmartConsole trusted client settings.

Question 3

Identify the default username and password for a newly installed Check Point appliance.

  1. admin/password
  2. admin/Chkp1234
  3. cpadmin/cpadmin
  4. admin/admin
Show answer and explanation

Correct answer: B. admin/Chkp1234

The default username and password for a newly installed Check Point appliance is admin/Chkp1234. This is the standard factory default that comes with Check Point security appliances before any customization or hardening takes place.

Why the other options are wrong

  • A. While admin is correct, 'password' is not the default password for Check Point appliances.
  • C. cpadmin/cpadmin is not the standard default credential set for Check Point appliances.
  • D. While admin is correct, 'admin' is not the default password used by Check Point.

What makes the CCSA R82 hard

CCSA R82 replaced the R81.20 exam in 2026, and 156-215.81.20 stopped being offered on 30 June 2026. That matters more for Check Point than for most vendors, because the exam tracks the software release, and most study material online was written for R80.x or R81.20 SmartConsole and then relabelled. If a resource does not mention 156-215.82, it is not for this exam.

The exam is 100 questions in 90 minutes with a flat 70% pass mark, so time pressure is real and every domain counts. It covers the Quantum architecture and standalone versus distributed deployment, Gaia with clish and expert mode, SmartConsole, SIC and the Internal Certificate Authority, policy packages with ordered and inline layers, automatic and manual NAT, Application Control and URL Filtering, Identity Awareness, Threat Prevention profiles, HTTPS Inspection, site-to-site and remote access VPN, logging and SmartEvent basics, ClusterXL high availability, and backups and upgrades. Check Point does not publish domain weightings, so the safe assumption is that policy, NAT, Identity Awareness and Threat Prevention carry the most questions, because that is where the daily administration lives.

About the exam

156-215.82 (Check Point Certified Security Administrator R82) earns the CCSA R82 certification and is the prerequisite for CCSE R82. It covers deploying and administering Quantum Security Gateways and Security Management on R82: SmartConsole, Gaia, policy and NAT, Application Control, Identity Awareness, Threat Prevention, HTTPS Inspection, VPN, logging, ClusterXL and system maintenance. No formal prerequisites; Check Point recommends 6 to 12 months with its products and the CCSA R82 course.

Exam topic areas

  • Check Point architecture, deployment and Gaia
  • SmartConsole, SIC and object management
  • Security policy, layers and NAT
  • Application Control, URL Filtering and Identity Awareness
  • Threat Prevention and HTTPS Inspection
  • Site-to-site and remote access VPN
  • Logs, monitoring, ClusterXL and maintenance

Check Point does not publish weightings for these areas. 100 multiple-choice questions, 90 minutes (plus 15 for non-native English speakers), pass mark 70%, US$300 per attempt, Pearson VUE test centre or OnVUE online, certification valid for two years.
